Litmus Test for Finding the Microsoft Dynamics ERP Partner Who Is “Right” for You
I subscribe to Merriam-Webster’s “Word of the Day” email. Today’s word was a litmus test, which made me think about my long forgotten high school chemistry class. We did simple experiments with litmus paper to determine which fluids were acidic and which were alkaline.
And then I thought if only there was such a simple way to test ERP partners and find the “right” one for your business to work with. In the end, when it comes to choosing a Microsoft Dynamics ERP partner, it does boil down to chemistry. Here are a few of the “chemical” components you might want to consider when you’re making that choice.
Big or Small
Size matters. If you’re a small company, do you want to be a small fish in a big pond or a small fish in a small pond? It’s a bit like choosing a bank. Sometimes it makes sense to work with a smaller bank where you’re likely to get more personalized service, where your business matters more. But if you’re a big company and you do business internationally, you might need the services that only a big bank can provide.
Near or Far
Geography matters. We live in a virtual world, so you might wonder why proximity should be a consideration. When you work with a local partner, you won’t incur the cost of flying consultants in to handle your ERP software implementation, upgrades, and ongoing support. Sure, a lot of that can be handled remotely today, but when you need someone on site, a local partner will be more cost-effective. What’s more, it’s entirely possible that a local Microsoft partner will have a better understanding of the local market.
Old or New
Experience matters. It might be a cliché, but we all know that technology changes at the speed of light. So, you might wonder whether an older, more established ERP partner is up to speed on all of the newest technologies. By the same token, you might wonder if a newer partner has the depth of experience that an established partner has accumulated over many years of working with Microsoft Dynamics products. When a new product like Microsoft Dynamics 365 is released, it actually doesn’t matter whether the partner is new or old. Both of them have to learn the intricacies of the new product.
Horizontal or Vertical
Industry expertise matters. Some Microsoft Dynamics ERP partners work across many industries. Some specialize in a single or a small number of industries, making them experts in the unique requirements of those industries. After all, even the basics of GL, AP, and AR are quite different for manufacturers versus nonprofits. Microsoft Dynamics GP and Microsoft Dynamics 365 are horizontal solutions. But that doesn’t mean that you wouldn’t be better served by a partner who specializes in your industry.
Where Does Tidestone Fit on the pH Scale of Microsoft Dynamics ERP Partners?
Good question. Let me tell you about Tidestone Solutions.
Big or Small? Some partners are “one-man” shops. We’re bigger than that! Some have hundreds of employees. We’re smaller than that! We are a small team of consultants, which allows for a very collaborative work environment and hands-on, personalized care for our clients.
Near or Far? Naturally, that depends on where you are! We’re in Portland, Maine. And while most of our clients are in driving distance from our office, some are far, far away. Our far away clients have come to us because we are experts in their industries or because we have decades of Microsoft Dynamics experience.
Old or New? We’re old! We’ve been implementing Microsoft’s oldest ERP solution, Dynamics GP, since 1995. However, you might say that from a technological standpoint, we’re new. Because we’re also totally up to speed on Microsoft’s newest ERP solution, Dynamics 365.
Horizontal or Vertical? Tidestone is both. We do specialize in 3 areas, namely Recipe Manufacturing, Wholesale Distribution, and Field Service. But we serve clients nationwide who have come to Tidestone seeking our unique chemistry!
